Damn Small Linux

Postby Fishbones » Thu Aug 09, 2007 4:57 pm

Yeah, I am trying to find a linux distro more suitable for an older machine, that runs minimally with the least of space. I found Damn Small Linux, and got the Windows-Embedded version for this PC as I have previously stated that it is not mine to maintenance on. But when I downloaded the .iso file, when booting, it will not work. It is a LiveCD when I boot, it says "press enter to continue loading" etc... But when it starts to load, the penguin shows up in the top left of the screen for awhile and I hear no motions from my computer, just stillness and the CPU fan. Am I downloading the right one?

The Windows-Embedded version is presumably for use in a virtual machine under Windows. You should download an x86/i386 LiveCD if you don't want to touch anything on the disk.

Yep, and speaking of Damn Small Linux, does it have a compiler? I tried using the terminal eg. g++ and it returned no install instructions. I tried sudo apt-get install g++, that did not work either. So my question is, are there any compilers for this distribution? If not, this can just be my fuck-around mini-OS for my thumb drive in school rather than shit windows.

GCC isn't on it, but can be easily downloaded, as indicated by the wiki page.
