So You cant login at all?

Can you possibly log in with knoppix or something, and replace /etc/password and the shadow file?

Don't replace /etc/password. Instead, just use knoppix to "chroot" into your current installation, and change the password that way.

Example (from knoppix):

Code: Select all

# mount /dev/hda1 /mnt
# chroot /mnt /bin/bash
 # passwd
enter new password:
Changing password for root
enter new UNIX password:
conforim:
password change successfully
 # exit
# umount /dev/hda1
