Windows Start up Passwprd

Post by Chrysaer » Thu Oct 20, 2011 2:25 am

Hey, My computer has a start up password on it, i want to crack it. But i Dont trust most of these sights for password crackers? (ones that you put on a CD or PENDRIVE) , preferably one without viruses .
It would mean alot.
Thanks, Chrysaer. :smile:

Is it a BIOS password or a Windows password?
That's kindof important, the approach is vastly different.

I'm not quite sure, I Think it's a BIOS one, 'cos as soon as i press the Turn On button, Its ask for a BOOT UP password.
It's a Laptop, with Windows 7. (if that's any help).

That sounds like a BIOS password yea. They're quite tricky.
You can try to open it up and see if there's any BIOS/CMOS reset jumpers. If not, you can try to disconnect the BIOS battery for a while, hoping it might lose it's settings. But these days a lot of them are FLASH memory, which don't need a constant power source.

Before you you start tearing it appart though, google the make and model along with bios reset. That should give you at least an idea of your options.

Online password cracking
Hydra -> http://thc.org/thc-hydra/. (Or Burtus, but it's not being developed anymore.)

Offline password cracking
John the Ripper -> http://www.openwall.com/john/
