Post your essential firefox addons

Post by CaptainCheeseTits » Fri Sep 30, 2011 12:54 pm

Can you post the firefox addons which you use constantly and never go without. I like to reinstall linux every couple of months or so. Consequently, in my memory I've been gradually accumulating a list of essential programs which I install every time I reinstall my OS. I only really got into using firefox addons recently (I finally realised how much easier they make things and how much more powerful they make your browser) so heres my list of essential addons so far:

Note: It will only let me post a maximum of 7 links so I'll just post the name of the addon, to download it go here: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-us/firefox/addon/
and paste the addon name at the end of the URL.

Navigation Addons
Session Manager - This addon lets you bookmark pages along with sessions so you can bookmark pages with yourself logged in. When firefox crashes, this addon will recover the session when you restart firefox.
Addon name: session-manager

Security Addons
NoScript - Although this addon pisses me off from time to time (when it blocks scripts that I need), it blocks masses of scripts that would piss me off even more and the more insidious scripts that I'd prefer my browser not to run.
Addon name: noscript

HTTPS Everywhere - This addon makes it so when you go to particular sites, lets say http://www.wikipedia.com it'll automatically load the HTTPS version of the site, in this case https://secure.wikimedia.org. Obviously in only works on sites that support HTTPS and only works on the sites that they have written the rules for but its an essential plugin for security minded web users.

BetterPrivacy - Just started using this one, it automatically deletes LSO cookies. Thats all it does but I always install it no cuz I don't see any reason not to have a lightweight addon like that installed.
Addon name: betterprivacy

Download Addons
Save as PDF - This adds a button to your taskbar which lets you download a webpage as a PDF. I do a lot of reading on the internet and used to bookmark mass amounts of information pages but now I just download them instead. This way it doesn't matter if the site that I found the article on is taken down. Plus, I prefer reading articles in PDF format. The main problem I have with this addon is it can't download pages that require you to be logged in to view. I'd say theres a way to get the program to log into sites though.

There are heaps of PDF downloader addons but this is one is by far the most convenient one I've found.
Addon name: save-as-pdf

DownlThemAll! - I used to download pictures manually, even when I wanted to save a series of pictures on one of those porn pages where theres a gallery of thumbnails and you have to click on them to get the full sized pictures. It was a painstaking long process and God knows how many hours of my life I wasted over the years doing this. I knew what web spiders were and when I eventually downloaded this firefox addon I saw how stupid I was for downloading stuff manually.
Addon name: downthemall

DownThemAll! AntiContainer - I discovered this one recently. It is like a modified version of DownThemAll! thats built for downloading pictures from those thumbnail galleries. This version will download pictures no matter what type of links you feed it. For example you know the way some of those porn thumbnail galleries have links to HTML files instead of JPGs or some of them link to a PHP script. Unlike regular DownThemAll!, this addon will download the pictures anyway.
Addon name: downthemall-anticontainer

Easy Youtube Video Downloader - I download a lot of youtube videos so this addon is perfect since it adds a dropdown menu below the video which gives you a choice between downloading it as a FLV or MP4. It only lets you download youtube videos though.

Addon name: easy-youtube-video-downl-10137

NetVideoHunter - For downloading videos on sites other than youtube, I use this addon. It adds a button to the taskbar that lets you download any flv files it detects.
Addon name: netvideohunter-video-downloade

Misc Addons
GreaseMonkey - This is a system for running user scripts. User scripts are javascripts which firefox will run everytime it loads a page. The only reason I use this all the time is cuz I use KeePassX password manager and this program uses webpages titles to identify them. Problem is some sites use ambiguous titles like "Log-in page" which could be the title for many different sites so I use a script to insert the URL into the title of every page I go onto.
Addon name: greasemonkey

TempoMail
If I wanna make an account that isn't linked to any of my other accounts and don't feel like making a new email address for it, I'll use a temporary email. This addon simplifies things for me.
Addon name: tempomail

Not Essential But Cool Addons
HackBar - An addon for pen testing. I haven't figured out how to use it yet and probably wouldn't use it that often but I'd say some of you here consider it an essential addon.
Addon name: hackbar

TinEye Reverse Image Search - You upload any picture and it will search the internet for any images that match it. This way if you have a picture but don't know where it came from, this addon will attempt to find places that the picture is hosted on the internet.
Addon name: tineye-reverse-image-search

Thats all the essential plugins on my list. I've used plenty of plugins but these are the ones that I never go without anymore cuz I use them all the time. There are obviously plenty of essential plugins that I've yet to discover. I badly need a program that will log into rapidshare with my username and password and download files on a schedule. Can you share your own list of essential plugins.

I'll add a few more, you guys have listed what I normally roll with already:

Web and cookies
Firebug - Very handy for webdev related stuff, and not so webdev related stuff. Pretty much full control and editing of various source types within a web page. https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/firebug/

firecookie - An addon to firebug; enables full editing, creation and viewing of cookies https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefo ... irecookie/

Google Proxy
Goolgesharing - Great for proxying your pr0n request....and stuff.

Password crypt
Lastpass -I'd like to know your thoughts on this. I think a password management system is a good idea. This one seems to do the job well for web related activity. On one note though, I don't like it syncing your hashes on a server somewhere, and it is a single point of failure if your "lastpass" is stolen. But there are multi auth options that manage that; it's better then nothing and makes using complex passes for every site easy. One problem I run into is logging onto some sites on a public computer that im not willing to download this on; then im stuck not knowing my pass and have to wait. What other kinds of systems are you guys using?
