IP Spoofing Opinion

Post by Thor » Sun Dec 05, 2010 2:37 pm

Here's a rather vague question for you guy's. How effective do you think IP Address Spoofing still is? As in, it's usability to fool firewalls into thinking your from the LAN, port scan in the LAN from outside, and to connect ports on the firewall? In your opinion, how effective is this attack nowadays? Thanks.

In most networks it's as effective as it ever was. Some firewalls will do deep packet inspections or logical tracing on packets and connections to try and detect spoofing, but most networks just don't have this.

I remember reading about this attack being used to bypass internal proxies. Should work great.
