Re: Website making
The fundamental driving force behind any website is and always has been HTML, and for some time now also CSS. The current versions of those are HTML5 and CSS3.
Any program or even backend programming languages like php live only to eventually generate HTML, so this is really where to start.
There's a tutorial series on youtube that is really quite easy to follow, covers a lot of the basics and will let you get started and with some practical examples.
XHTML & CSS This is pretty much the basis for everything else.
HTML5 & CSS3 All the html5 stuff.
PHP You can use php to build a lot of server side intelligence for your websites.
Javascript You can use this to do a lot of client side processing and effects for your websites. But whatever people may tell you, you website should never rely on Javascript to function. Javascript can be disabled entirely by people in their browser so your site should still work without it.
jQuery Javascript framework that's very commonly used and quite cool.
Well all in all that should do two things.
1. Give you pretty much most of the grounding you need to become a web developer. (Note that you still need a lot of experience and probably a lot of graphics, design and human interaction stuff.)
2. It should keep you busy for quite a while =p
