a trial that you download runs out; and even if you download it again it remembers

does that mean there is a regeistry entry on your computer telling it it's done? that could be deleted?
Anyone here ever leaked Halo CE map files?

that is one possibility, yes. download regmon and trace the registry interactions of the program, you might learn somethin.

You could always check the config files that may come with this software aswell, as for how this software works, it depends on how sophisticated is it, it is possible, that it uses the local system time or even connects to a remote server to verify the time (so that people can't just change their clocks back on their computer, check your firewall). You should probably note that by tricking the program into running for longer, is in breach of the licensing agreement (if one is applicable).
