red tinted LCD

Postby The Legato » Mon Dec 19, 2005 8:05 pm

I got a hold of an old laptop, and I noticed, the screen is tinted severely red. I looked up issues with this, and they were talking about a CCFL bulb.

Can I get a second opinion on what the problem could be?

(The laptop is a Compaq Presario 1688)

Thanks,

-L

[EDIT]

It seems like they don't want to tell me much except where to find the nearest HP store.

[UPDATE] Well, turns out, the LCD display cannot be opened, so, I guess im tossing it.

is that you got a computer from Compaq before they were bought out by HP, am i correct?
Secondly, you were asking help from Ahkbar if you were on the phone with HP.

Wel;l, it may not be a hardware problem at all, Someone could have used a color adjuster app to own the box, try running one yourself and adjusting red to -128 or -255 or something.

NOOOO don't toss it! That's computer abuse!

I replaced the LCD and inverter on my SONY laptop about two months ago. It cost somewhere in the neighborhood of $160 (which was probably way less than taking it to a repair shop) and was surprising simple to do.

Honestly the hardest part was figuring out how the bezel came off. Even if I had broken that floppy piece of plastic I could have bought another one for like $8. It does sound like it's a CCFL problem (check it with an external monitor to be sure) but you should most defiantly froogle search it, fool!

edit: I look back and see this is from 05...WTF? Who dug this up!? Eh...well for future reference, anyway.
I got your number. I steal your thunder.
