Hawking Wireless and Linux

Postby 31nst31nv2 » Wed Oct 03, 2007 7:28 pm

Has anybody successfully used this wireless device under Linux? I was found it for cheap at my local Microcenter and was thinking I could use it to boost wireless performance and distance for a low price. On the other hand if it won't work on Linux I have no use for it at all. Thank you for any help.

What model is it? I've used two Hawking cards in the past, neither used a chipset that worked natively with linux, but both worked through ndiswrapper.

Sorry, guess I should have underlined the link. Here it is again. http://www.hawkingtech.com/products/productlist.php?CatID=35&FamID=111&ProdID=362
Oh, and one more question. Since you say they work with ndiswrapper, will I still be able to use Kismet or other such tools. I mainly want to be able to extend my wardriving range as I already have built in wireless that works at home and is compatible with linux. Thank you for your help so far.

No, kismet will not work with ndiswrapper. From doing a few seconds of searching, it looks like that card does not work natively with linux, meaning you would need to use ndiswrapper.

If you want a good card that works with linux and is kick-ass for kismet use, look into the orinoco gold cards, and also check this out.. :)
