Ubuntu shell commands

Postby sh_ithe_ad » Fri Mar 14, 2008 1:31 am

I just started using linux and I love it so far. I'm using Ubuntu because my friend told me it was the easiest version of linux to use. Do any of you know any tutorials on the different shell commands for Ubuntu? I've installed a few programs following the instructions given on the website through the shell command line interface but I had no idea what I was doing I was just typing what the website told me to.

Are there any good tutorials for beginners that teach you all the basic commands to use with the CLI so I'll at least have a bit of an idea whats going on when I install programs?

When you are at the terminal, tap tab twice and it will ask you if you want to display however many commands are available to you. If you select yes, it will give you a list of every command you can execute. To learn about a command, use man.

Example:

man ls

To leave a man page, press q.
