Hello, i have a new Sony Vaio (not sure model) running vista basic (i think) just bought last christmas.
Two days ago i was playing a game (as usual) then it just out of the blue started to shut down and install the regular updates displaying 1 of 3 0% regretably i held down the power to shut it down immediately. I restarted it and it started to boot normally until the after the windows sign appears it goes to installing updates 3 of 3 0% stays for about 1-3 mins then says shuting down then does so and restarts and completes the process over.
Im not sure why i had the random crash (maybe the game?) in the first place but im thinking the boot files were messed up when i held the power key (because it says please do not shutdown when its installing) but ive tried just about everything i know to do which is just trying everything in the boot menu the ONLY way i can actually boot up (which is in safe mode) is like "boot recovery seystem" or something like that in the advanced boot mode options which is pretty much the only thing that works AT ALL. the only other thing that seems to work is going into that blue screen where i can set a system password or change the boot order (where i think is where you start the recovery discs (which i do not have)). But getting into the recovery safe mode thing i tried to system restore to an earlier date. the recovery process takes place normally until i get to finalizing recovery process.. then it just sticks. I left it overnight tonight and was still running an hour after i got up. i exited it and it restarted again re-doing the regular process where it gets stuck and restarts again. so restoring is out the windo also.
I've seen some other responses to sort-of-similar solutions to my problem.
One was to update some graphics or video drivers or video card. I don't think thats the problem because i have to have Preety good graphics hardware to play that certain game (and the computer is relatively new).
Another was on this sight about partition driver or something (whatever that is) but i cant boot upp to get to the start menu so thats out the window i guess (dont have recov discs anyway). But thats about it.
I really need help because although i was playing the game i also need the computer for work over the weekends and is the only means of having a computer at home for me. I dont have a warranty and dont really have the money for the recovery discs. If really needed i can get the discs but i would like to find another solution. I wont be here at the office over the weekend but will check back here monday.
Thanks for all input. Sorry its so long.
