Banding Together with Blogs

Post by Aiden » Mon Dec 21, 2009 5:59 pm

Today, I was reading through guidj0s's blog, and had a brilliant idea. What if I created a site to link together all the blogs of members of Hackerthreads in one place?

Just something simple would suffice at first. A page that grabs the RSS feeds of everyone's sites and puts them together in chronological order. Not only would it make it easy for a reader (or searcher) to find something interesting to read (or find what he was looking for) but it would also generate a bit of well-deserved traffic to the smaller blogs out there that write interesting articles, but don't advertise.

And from a SEO perspective, it's brilliant. The page will be updated once a day with any new posts that you write, and will link back to you on every article, adding to your linkbacks and google rank. Because the page will (hopefully) get plenty of pageviews (due to it covering multiple blogs and not just one), the weight of the link will be a bit heavier.

Now, I don't want to be accused of stealing everyone's blog content, so this is strictly a voluntary opportunity. You can submit your site if you wish, but there is one thing that I want in return. I want to keep the quality of the page linking to all of these blogs up. Now, that doesn't mean you can't link up if you don't use the best grammar (though I recommend it) or if you just talk about bland things like python ( ). What it does mean is that I prefer your RSS feed to be at least 90% tech related. No random posts about your life; no pics of your little sister (send those to my email); and no random links to YouTube videos (unless they're techy!)

So, if you're interested in pumping up your blog's readers and gaining a bit of extra traffic, feel free to leave a comment below with a link to your site and its RSS feed. Feel free to leave any other information you want as well. And after all, by posting to get added, you're getting linked to from hackerthreads as well -- yet another linkback and source of visitors!

Right now, you can see the page at: http://htblogs.webege.com/
I just started working on it this morning, so it's still a bit in beta. But as far as I can tell, it works fine! :)

It's mostly snippets of code without much of an explanation, but I _do_ plan on writing every once in a while.... :D

I added it to the sources, but I noticed it uses RSS/XML 1.0 (as opposed to 2.0), so it's not going to find any content. I'll work on it a bit and see what I can hack up to allow for 1.0. I wasn't aware blogspot was still behind. o.O

And also - my host is lol. The site might at any time be down for "malicious inspection." Just disregard it. ;)

Woot - added.

Unfortunately, I'm still wrestling with how to parse XML 1.0, but it'll succumb to my greatness eventually. They all do..........................................................................................

I hate blogs in general and I despise of "social networking" bs, however, I like this idea. Let me know if I can help.
