disgusting, do you really enjoy watching that?
Ichi the Killer was a great movie. Sure it was very violent, but it was just so different from the usual crap Hollywood pumps out. I'm not a fan of all this pok-e-crap Asian animation that is flooding Western culture over the last couple of years (especially the Transformers remakes, don't get me started), but there is alot to be said for Asian movies.
They have a tendancy to break away from the whole traditional Hero / Villain formula, dare to say and show things that Hollywood hasn't got the balls to, and actually show alot of originality rather than just pumping out the same tired remakes. Take Ichi, the protagonist of the movie, he was clearly very mentally disturbed, yet the audience feels strangely inclined to show some sympathy for his character, yet be repulsed by his actions. The movie is a strange (and yes, violent) struggle between a sadist and a masochist, rather than the usual hero / villain combination. Anyhow, I enjoyed the movie as it was a break away from the norm, and I thought the whole storyline was portrayed very well. If you don't like violence, then obviously it's not for you (although as it's a manga adaption alot of it is very comical), but that's not the whole point of the movie.
If you really want to see a great Asian movie, watch OldBoy, it's seriously one of the best movies I've seen in a few years. It's about a man that is locked up in a room for 15 years, without being told why, framed for his families murder, and then eventually released, only to be given 5 days to find out why he was originally kidnapped and incarcerated. The storyline, again, is original and brilliantly told, with a few shocking twists, and enough action to keep you entertained.
As for the Hackers / Hackers 2 thing, I thought Hackers was just hilarious ("RISC architecure! Wow! This is the next big thing!", the nicknames / handles of the characters, and that uber graphical mainframe haha), and thus it entertained me. Watch the movie again and just take it at face value, and you will likely have a laugh at it's expense. Takedown was not that bad, it just told the whole Shimomura / Mitnick story more than it tried to focus on the technical aspects, but you can't hold that against the movie..... not many people want to watch 2 hours of buffer overflows, DoS attacks and brute forcing telnet logins.
Alot of movies I've just seen you guys post that I also really enjoyed, but I can't be bothered to list them, gotta run to work in a few. I didn't really enjoy I, Robot that much though, it deviated so much from the novel and replaced all the insightful material with Audi and Converse adverts.... but each to their own.
It was once suggested that a million monkeys working at a million typewriters would produce the works of Shakespeare. However, a million monkeys working at a million keyboards has only produced 2girls1cup, goatse and MySpace.
