Why does everyone hate hackers so much? I mean, it wasnt meant to look real. It's a MOVIE not a DOCUMENTARY. I can understand people not liking it for the plot line/characters/all over story, but not because the hacking sequences aren't real looking. I honestly love the movie, thought it was great. Mathew Lillard is fuckin hilarious. It's sitting on my DVD shelf right now. My 2 cents.

disgusting, do you really enjoy watching that?

Ichi the Killer was a great movie. Sure it was very violent, but it was just so different from the usual crap Hollywood pumps out. I'm not a fan of all this pok-e-crap Asian animation that is flooding Western culture over the last couple of years (especially the Transformers remakes, don't get me started), but there is alot to be said for Asian movies.

They have a tendancy to break away from the whole traditional Hero / Villain formula, dare to say and show things that Hollywood hasn't got the balls to, and actually show alot of originality rather than just pumping out the same tired remakes. Take Ichi, the protagonist of the movie, he was clearly very mentally disturbed, yet the audience feels strangely inclined to show some sympathy for his character, yet be repulsed by his actions. The movie is a strange (and yes, violent) struggle between a sadist and a masochist, rather than the usual hero / villain combination. Anyhow, I enjoyed the movie as it was a break away from the norm, and I thought the whole storyline was portrayed very well. If you don't like violence, then obviously it's not for you (although as it's a manga adaption alot of it is very comical), but that's not the whole point of the movie.

If you really want to see a great Asian movie, watch OldBoy, it's seriously one of the best movies I've seen in a few years. It's about a man that is locked up in a room for 15 years, without being told why, framed for his families murder, and then eventually released, only to be given 5 days to find out why he was originally kidnapped and incarcerated. The storyline, again, is original and brilliantly told, with a few shocking twists, and enough action to keep you entertained.

As for the Hackers / Hackers 2 thing, I thought Hackers was just hilarious ("RISC architecure! Wow! This is the next big thing!", the nicknames / handles of the characters, and that uber graphical mainframe haha), and thus it entertained me. Watch the movie again and just take it at face value, and you will likely have a laugh at it's expense. Takedown was not that bad, it just told the whole Shimomura / Mitnick story more than it tried to focus on the technical aspects, but you can't hold that against the movie..... not many people want to watch 2 hours of buffer overflows, DoS attacks and brute forcing telnet logins.

Alot of movies I've just seen you guys post that I also really enjoyed, but I can't be bothered to list them, gotta run to work in a few. I didn't really enjoy I, Robot that much though, it deviated so much from the novel and replaced all the insightful material with Audi and Converse adverts.... but each to their own.

- Brad Pitt

They're just so boring and can't get over how "good" they look.... Rolling Eyes

I agree whole fartedly except for his Tyler Durden role in Fight Club, not as good as Edward Norton but he was still great in it.

So many great movies you've all mentioned that i've been told about over the years but forgot.. I doubt my bittorrent queue will be empty for quite a while.

Oh and if you're into stoner comedy you cant miss the cheech and chong movies or half baked :)

On Leo DeCapreo (sp), have you seen him in Basketball Diaries? I thouhgt he was awesome in that film. Not really bothered to see any of his other films.

My faves:
American History X
LOTR Trilogy
Game of Death 2 (Very cheesey indeed, but hey, thats why I like it!)
Rocky
King of New York (Christopher Walken pwns NYC)
Road to Perdition
Carlito's Way
Scarface
Godfather Trilogy (I have weird box set where all 3 films are merged to Capollas liking, so I cannot comment on part 3 being shit or not)
I Heart Huckabees (Mark Wahlberg is aweome in it)
Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind (Jim Carrey playing serious role)
Dances With Wolves
Masters fo the Universe (loved this as a kid and still do for its cheesy plain fun'ness- about HeMan if you are wondering)
Willow
Goodfellas
Casino
A Bronx Tale
Big Trouble in Little China (another child-hood fave)
Conan the Barbarian
Matrix 1
Pumping Iron (Arnie/bodybuilding documentary)
The Postman (Kevin Costner - post-apocalyptic'ish)
The Bodyguard (Kevin Costner got skills)
Ferris Beuler's Day Off

And loads more I can't think of.

Oh I like Hackers a lot too, just plain fun.

Hm, something's wrong with the tags, so apologies if this posts sloppily.

"Anyone seen the breakfast club? I heard it was good..."

This is an excellent movie. So's "The Butterfly Effect".

Vanilla Skies is awesome, Fight Club, too many to mention...Oh, but do lemme mention Mulholland Drive, or anything Lynch.

Hmm I don't get the point why Brad Pitt, Di Caprio should be bad actors. Is this something jealousy related?

Let's take Meet Joe Black... a genious movie. I don't think that anyone else would fit better in that role than Pitt.
What about Fight Club? If you really liked the movie you aren't able to say that you hate Pitt. That's self-contradictory
What about Ocean's Eleven/Twelve? Spy Game?

Then Di Caprio
The Beach, Jim Carrol, Catch me if you can. I didn't like Gangs of New York.

We had the same point at another board and it also seemed like it's just jealousy related. Maybe you just don't like the characters they play that may be also a point.
I know of people which don't like Tom Cruise, which also seems strange to me.

Anyway you all forgot:
Mad Mission

For Lynch Movies:
Lost Highway? You actually understood that movie? It was way too strange for me... Didn't get it and didn't really want to take the time to watch it twice
Mulholland Drive made sense... also strange, but it made sense
I liked Mulholland Drive

pehaps you failed to read my post? it's not evny in the least, it's sheer boredom....

They're boring, just boring to watch... Brad Pitt can't just act out a part, he has to pause, speak slowly and dramatically, and half the time just sit there knowing how good looking he is -- which bores me crapless  case in point, Meet Joe Black, one of the slowest, most boring films on the planet thanks to Pitt's inability to move at a normal framerate, he looks like HL2 running on an old 386 sometimes...... the best job I've ever seen him do was in the remake of Ocean's 11 (haven't seen 12, yet), he almost seemed human in that...

basically the same goes for Leanardo, although his has the eternal strike of having played in Titanic, a movie that has been scientifically proven to bad...

I know alot of people don't like Brad Pitt for various reasons, but I think he's alright, there are many worse actors around. He's also been in some decent films, none of which I thought he did a particular bad job in:

Troy, Snatch, Seven, Twelve Monkeys, Sleepers, Oceans 11/12, Fight Club etc.

He's also popped up in Jackass a few times, including a stunt where the Jackass crew kidnapped him in front of a movie theater, which I thought was hilarious.
