Repasting my graphics card

Post by Fishbones » Sun Feb 06, 2011 2:25 pm

Lately, if I play any intense games such as Black Ops or Bad Company 2, my graphics card (ATI HD 5870 Mobility Radeon) overheats.

I did a little bit of research into this, and I guess that the thermal paste applied in the Asus G73JH laptops degrades quickly. I bought some IC Diamond 7, after finding out that its one of the better pastes, and got it in the mail a few days ago. About halfway through disassembling my laptop, I encountered a round washer on the bottom of a small screw, on the part that locks the DVD-ROM drive into place.

So I had to rebuild my laptop from there, since I couldn't remove this washer as I don't have the right type of tools/don't know how. Any suggestions?

I know that the way I have asked the question is sort of vague, but any help would be much appreciated.

What model of laptop is it? The manufacturer might have disassembly documentation somewhere on the interwebs.

That is what I found, it just says remove screw on the bottom case and pull out the ODD module.

The screw for the ODD module has a round washer on it...

So it's:

Code: Select all

  [====]   < screw head
  __||___
  __||___  < ODD module
    ||
   ----    < some washer
    ||
correct?

Nut != washer.

Washers go between the screw head and the surface to distribute the force of the screw over a larger surface area. Nuts thread on to the end of the screw in order to hold it in place.

So all the way at the bottom it was screwed into a hole some where, and there's something between the ODD module and the washer that keeps you from lifting it out?

Looks like I'm going to need to buy a key/wrench for round nuts of the 2.5*5 size?

F***... Another order.

Just use pliers, or scissors, or make your own tool out of sheet metal.
