using cygwin on vista to compile and install Hydra GTk
Ok. So I'm trying to get the Hydra GTK GUI on my windows PC. I have all the src files. I've downloaded the libshh files and installed them. I can ./configure, make, and make install fine. I get all the way to the point where I can see the xhydra app listed in my src. i can run hydra fine from cmd prompt. Everything seems fine but when I type in xhydra.exe in either cmd prompt or cygwin I get "error warning gtk cannot open console". WTF. please help. I know it something simple just haven't got it. I had several other issues but resolved them googling for clues. (Lots of people had problems installing this apparently) . Anyway please help. Thanks.

admittedly I don't know much about *nix, but GTK is a library to interface to x windows, so unless you can find a way to get x windows running through cygwin it isn't going to work. alternatively, you might google for a windows gui for hydra or a windows frontend that interfaces to cygwin hydra (since that is probably what the gtk version does anyway).
so see if that gets you anywhere until someone more knowledgeable about *nix to confirm/refute what I just said.

As far as I know that's correct. You need to either run an X server under cgywin too, or use a windows port of X11.
If we're breaking the rules, then how come you can't catch us? You can't find us? I know why. Cause, it's ... MAGIC!

I'll give that a try. Thanks for the help. I'll let you know what I find. I can't figure out why someone who has gone through all of this to get the GUI version of Hydra going hasn't uploaded the exe. file so everyone doesn't have to go through this. Am I wrong. I guess it's one of those "rights of passage" type things. LOL. Thanks again.
